Joel Cress, 67, died May 23 at his home in Pound, Va.
A son of the late Floyd and Nora Hendrix Cress, he was the widower of Mildred Ann Roberts Cress, a brother of the late Eva Johnson, and stepfather of the late Teresa Treadway.
He was a retired coal miner from Dixana Coal Co. and Scotia Coal Co., and was a former federal mine inspector.
Sur viving are two daughters, Karen Smith and Tonya Cress, both of Ermine; two sons, Keith Cress and Matthew Cress, both of Ermine; three stepdaughters, Barbara Davis, South Carolina, Linda Brown, West Virginia, and Janet Sidden, North Carolina; two stepsons, Billy Treadway, Florida, and Robert Treadway, Coeburn, Va.; four sisters, Linda Gail Hall and Mary Catherine Cress, both of Jackhorn, Alfha Stewart, McRoberts, and Shirley Stacy, Trenton, Ohio; a brother, Tommy Cress, Ermine; a number of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; and friends, Ed Sturgill and Haskell Phillips .
Funeral services were held May 26 at Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist Church in Pound, Va. Burial was in the Henry Stidham Cemetery in Pound.
