Johnny Collier celebrates 61st birthday

Big Cowan

Hi, everyone, it’s that time again.

I want to wish a late happy birthday to the Rev. Johnny Collier, pastor at Whitesburg Freewill Baptist. He turned 61 years young on August 3.

Kathy Wolfe is having problems with her nerves and Eddie has had a lot of problems with his elbow. He has been on antibiotics and will see a bone specialist on August 14. Keep both of them in your prayers.

Kim (Fields), formerly of Cowan, and her husband, Roger Hoskins, of Oneida, celebrated their third wedding anniversary on August 6. Best of luck to both of them. Also, Kim has had some medical problems. Pray for her.

My husband, James, and granddaughter, Rebecca, came in for the weekend. I sure was glad to see them but miss them when they leave.

Two very good friends in Indiana are in very bad health. Please remember them in your prayers, Carlos Cook and Randall Parks. They are both members of the Big Creek Baptist Church in Dupont, Ind. Hang in there, guys.

Ella Grindstaff from Edinburgh, Ind., had surgery and recuperating at home. Wish her a speedy recovery. Her mom and dad, Agnes and Bill Maggard of Columbus, Ind., are not in very good health either. Wish both of them well.

I want to stay hello to my former neighbors in Greensburg, Ind., Shelby and Bobby Bockover. They are former Letcher County residents. My husband tells everyone that I am writing for The Mountain Eagle, so he calls me “Legal Eagle”!

Everyone here in the mountains is so relaxed and laid back and has such great Southern hospitality. I love it!

Wayne Fields is doing much better. He returned to the doctor August 7 and he is healing well.

Francis Day stays busy in this heat hauling hay, mowing grass, helping with green beans. It is too hot for this old city girl. I stay in the house where it’s cooler. I can’t get used to the heat.

Our sympathy goes out to Allen Rittenhouse on the loss of his wife, Doris. He used to come up on Cowan and sing songs for my mother, Mary Fields.

Doug and Dana Sturgill’s son, Adam, got married on Saturday at Freewill Baptist Church. Congratulations.

Tommy Fields enjoyed his daughter, Jessie, and her family from Greenfield, Ind., over the weekend. I wish them a safe trip home. Tommy is like me, he really enjoys his grandchildren.

My granddaughter, Rebecca, went to the go-kart races Saturday night with DeeDee and Tonya Fields and Dee’s boyfriend, Sammy, who races. Good luck, Sammy!

I received a letter from Shelby Bockover in Greensburg. Glad to hear from you!

On Sunday, Juanita Fields and Marty Smith had a goingback to-school party for Emily and little Marty. Some of their friends from school attended, also several family member. Let’s pray for all our children and grandchildren who will be returning to school this fall with all the corruption and peer pressure. They really need our prayers.
