Jury: 3 stole copper, metal



Two Whitesburg men have been indicted on copper theft charges, while a Jeremiah man has been charged with theft of a metal guardrail.

Johnny Lee Gibson, 21, of 46 Orange Dr., Whitesburg, is accused of criminal trespass at Sapphire Coal Company’s UZ 2 Mine site located at 447 Johnson Fork Road, Premium, during the period of May 25 through May 29. He is also charged with criminal complicity with Billy Gibson in the theft of copper wire valued at $22,300 belonging to Sapphire Coal.

Billy Gibson, of 46 Orange Dr., Whitesburg, is accused of criminal trespass at Sapphire Coal Company’s UZ 2 Mine site located at 447 Johnson Fork Road, Premium, during the period of May 25 through May 29. He is also charged with criminal complicity with Johnny Lee Gibson in the theft of copper wire valued at $22,300 belonging to Sapphire Coal.

Kentucky State Trooper Donald White testified in the cases.

The grand jury charges Charles Wilder, 43, of 930 Hwy. 7 S, Jeremiah, with criminal complicity to theft on Nov. 17 with two unknown men in taking approximately 250 feet of metal guardrail valued at more than $500 belonging to Bush & Burchett Bridge and Highway Construction Co.

Letcher County Deputy Matt Gayheart testified in the case.
