Jury indicts eight





The Letcher County Grand Jury has indicted eight people including two men charged with removing a vehicle identification number from a four-wheeler in an attempt to defraud a creditor.

Jimmy D. Taylor, 23, of 617 Walters Branch, Isom, and Allen Joseph, 35, of 36 Marlow Road, Whitesburg, are both accused of removing the identifying number from a 2006 Kawasaki KFX four-wheeler. The indictment says the fourwheeler is the security on a loan and the two men removed the identifying number on April 15, 2007 to “unlawfully hinder the enforcement of

Letcher County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Rose testified in the case.

Others indicted are:

• Kelvin Wayne Mullins – burglary, theft of a firearm, and theft.

Mullins, 34, of 11998 Hwy. 805, Jenkins, is charged with burglary of the residence of James E. Addington on May 1, 2008. Items the grand jury says were taken in the burglary include a 12-gauge shotgun belonging to Ted Corder and various items belonging to James E. Addington.

Jenkins Police Office Adam Swindall testified in the case.

• Ernie Lee Yonts – seconddegree assault.

Yonts, 43, of P.O. Box 554, 339 Hogg Hollow, Neon, is charged with striking Kenneth Meade in the head with a glass beer or whiskey bottle on July 6, 2007.

Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Deputy Bert Slone testified in the case.

• Jody Ray Rose – trafficking in a controlled substance and being a persistent felony offender.

The grand jury says Rose, 26, of 55 Still Road, Jackhorn, sold a quantity of OxyContin to a cooperating witness with the Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Department on August 2, 2007.

Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Deputy Bert Slone testified in the case.

• Franklin W. Bentley – trafficking in a controlled substance.

The grand jury says Bentley, 45, of 21 B-Ball Drive, McRoberts, sold a quantity of OxyContin to a cooperating witness with the Letcher County Sheriff’s Department on August 6, 2007.

Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Deputy Bert Slone testified in the case.

• Linda K. Hughes – bail jumping.

Hughes, 44, of P.O. Box 1014, Jenkins, is charged with failing to appear for a jury trial on January 7, 2008, while on bond.

Letcher County Sheriff ‘s Deputy Jason Boggs testified in the case.

• Eulis A. Adams II – bail jumping and being a persistent felony offender.

Adams, 37, of P.O. Box 653, Neon, is charged with failing to appear for a jury trial on April 7, 2008, while on bond.
