Jury indicts two for sexual abuse

The Letcher Grand Jury has named two Letcher County residents in indictments charging them with sexual abuse and sodomy.

Mardy Ray Collins, 54, of 39 Loggy Hollow, Whitesburg, is charged with two counts of sexual abuse and two counts of sodomy of two children less than 12 years old, and three counts of indecent exposure to three children less than18 years old on August 6.

Holly Hammock Vanover of the Cabinet for Families and Children testified in the case.

Paul Clay Briggs Jr., 28, of 114 Railroad St., Jenkins, is charged with one count of sexual abuse and one count of sodomy of a child less than12 years. The grand jury says these crimes occurred prior to February 26.

Kentucky State Police Detective Vicki Eversole testified in the case.

Also indicted by the grand jury is Michael Ray Sergent, 34, 1111 US 60 West, who is charged with receiving stolen property and being a persistent felony offender.

The grand jury says Sergent possessed on January 2, 2006, a 1996 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck stolen from Tracy Senters.

Brian Johnson of the Kentucky State Police testified in the case.
