Jury selection began today (Monday) in the murder trial of James R. Huffman IV, accused in the New Year’s 2014 slaying of Michael Hogg, 24, of Whitesburg.
More than 120 potential jurors showed up in Letcher Circuit Courtroom Monday morning. Special Letcher Circuit Judge Kent Hendrickson ordered 32 names called, and began qualifying and replacing members of that pool. After initial questions of whether jurors had any reason they could not sit through a trial that could last well into next week and whether jurors had read or heard about the case, Hendrickson AND attorneys for the defense and prosecution began questioning jurors Individually in chambers.
Court recessed about 3:30 p.m. without completing the selection process. Jury selection will continue Tuesday morning.
