Kathleen Brock dies at 79



Kathleen “Kat” Miles Brock, 79, of Whitesburg, died July 5 at Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born in Blackey to the late Bill and Cinda Fields Howard, she was the widow of Wayne Miles, and later married Pastor Ernest Brock, who survives her.

She was a sister of the late Eddie Howard, Della Pennington and Louise Shepherd.

She was a dedicated member of the Cram Creek Pentecostal Church, where her husband served as pastor.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Deborah Kaye Lester and husband Ron of Cowan, Sandi Carroll and husband Larry of Louisville, and Kathy Sloce and husband Ray of Wise, Va.; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Miles and wife Kim of Mayking, and William Ballard “Barry” Miles and wife Tracy of Cowan; two stepdaughters, Mary Lynn Franks and husband Pat of Wise, Va., and Barbara Blair and husband Michael of Cumberland; a stepson, Dewayne Brock and wife Kelly of Athens, Ala.; six brothers, Hubert Howard, Charles Howard, Jack Howard, and Bobby Howard, all of Whitesburg, Hillard Howard of Lady Lake, Fla., and John Howard of Payne Gap; four sisters, Betty Tyree and Oma Hatton, both of Whitesburg, Joann Brown of Indianapolis, Ind., and Judy Greene of Rutledge, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Derrick, Justin, Erica, Jarrod, Kenny, Sawyer, Hayden and Liam, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Brock were held July 8 at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.
