Katydids have been chirping at night

Last week’s terrible rainstorm really took its toll in the Redfox area of Knott County and also in Doty Creek at Jeremiah. Culverts washed out, roadways covered over and even some homes had water in them. But thankfully no one was injured badly from the washouts.

I’ve noticed katydids have been chirping at night for the last couple of weeks — a reminder that fall is on its way.

Merle Caudill of Doty, has gotten out of the hospital after having lung problems. Sorry to hear that his son-in-law Billy Winstead isn’t well at all lately and had to be taken from the nursing home to Pikeville Hospital.

Roy and Barbara Culp have had her sister and brother-in-law visiting for awhile. ‘Kitty’ and Barbara are daughters of the late Willie J. and Martha Back of Spring Branch.

People are still reporting a lot of bear sightings. Mathew and Mattie Eldridge saw a mama bear and two cubs at Bellcraft, and Bob saw one near Payne Gap as he was going to work.

Mary Helen Blair was able to come to Blair Branch Church this past Sunday. Adrian brought her and picked her up. It was sacrament — communion time for the church — and we were also glad that Evangene and Arizona Adams were able to be back to church.

We were glad to learn that Eddie Adams finally has all his tests behind him and will be able to start treatments for his lymphoma maybe this week. He stays pretty weak right now but was out to Blair Branch Church this past weekend.

The 25th annual Adams, Thompson, Blair reunion is coming up on August 3 and 4. The vegetable soup and soup bean dinner will be on the 3rd at 5 p.m. then at 6:30 p.m. church will be held. Saturday, the dinner will start at about 6 p.m. This is on top of the hill at Blair Branch. All family and friends are invited to bring a covered dish, lawn chairs and your own drink and join in the fun with the washer tournament, good food and fellowship or the church service. Look in the Reunion section for more information.

Berma Matthews is out and about some now that she has her cast off her foot. It still swells, but I know she’s glad to be about to get out more.

The family of the late Oscar and Susan Back got together in Gatlinburg, Tenn., for about a week of visiting and reunion type outings. I’ll try to have more about this next week.

That’s it for now. Have a good week.

Jeremiah
