Kendall Boggs recovering from surgery

Big Cowan

Kendall Boggs had surgery last week. He is home now and doing well. Hang in there, Kendall.

Keep Burdeen and Virginia Ann Gilley in your prayers. Burdeen is doing some better and seemed pleased to see Bill, Agnes and Anna Maggard when they went to visit him in rehab.

Allyssa Nicely will be three years old Sept. 17. She lives in Texas, and is visiting her grandparents Tammy and Wayne Turner of Ingrams Creek, and also her great-grandmother Mary Lou Turner. She came with her mother Melissa and little sister Leah Grace. Her daddy is in Iraq at the moment. Have a good one, Allyssa. (She is a sweetheart.)

Our meatloaf dinners at church were really good, and we did pretty well with them with it being the third of the month. It sure was a long day.

Irene Day was tickled to death to get a mess of mountain oysters from her niece’s son, Terry. I hope she enjoys them. As for me, I say, ‘Yuck!’

Mom and Dad used to love them, but I would never taste them. I always wondered how far they had to chase that hog before they could clip them, and to that I say, ‘ouch!’

Please do not bring me any. There’s a lot of stuff I have tried in my day, but that is not one of them. And I hope to never eat those.

Well, let’s get back to reality. I hope everyone is doing well this week. I wanted to tell Oma Hatton that I enjoy her column, and that she does a good job.

I know some of the Howard family she writes about. I used to hear Bill Howard preach when he would come to Cowan when I was about 11 or 12 years old.

I also remember Eddie Howard being a policeman, and I thought he was goodlooking in his uniform. All of the Howard men were handsome, and all of the girls were very pretty.

Being Labor Day weekend, I saw several cars from Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.

The police have really been out hot and heavy, trying to get their quota for the month, I guess. Just keep your speed down, drive safe and buckle up, or you will be smiling for their cameras. Ha!

My grandchildren went to Cave City for a family reunion. I hope they had a safe trip. They went with their other grandparents, Donna and Jim Caffee.

Birthdays for the month of September are: Eddie Wolfe, Sept. 15, who will be 53; Archie Ray Fields on Sept. 12, who will be 64; Allyssa Nicely, Sept. 17, who will be three; Ashley Renee Fields, Sept. 30, who will be 17.

If I missed anyone, please forgive me, and maybe I will remember before the end of the month.

Be good to one another this week. Attend the church of your choice, just be in church somewhere.

The Bible tells us in Acts 4:31-32; And when they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and they spake the word of God with boldness. 32; And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and one soul.

Pray for our young people and those who are being held captive by drugs and alcohol.

May God bless each and every one.
