Whitesburg KY

KET to feature local filmmaker

A profile of Letcher County filmmaker Mimi Pickering will be featured on the next edition of “Kentucky Life”, airing Saturday, June 23, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, June 24, at 4:30 p.m. on KET.

Pickering has worked at Appalshop in Whitesburg since the early 1970s, making documentary films about Appalachia. Appalshop has produced theater, music and radio for almost 40 years, but its filmmaking unit may be its most well-known endeavor.

“Kentucky Life” will also profile a camp that teaches science in a way that appeals to middle schoolers, and will visit the Lighthouse Restaurant in Sulphur Well.
