Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is now accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy. Those in the class will receive an in-depth look at the Kentucky State Police as well as interacting with troopers who work in their communities. Topics will include patrol, criminal investigations and drug investigations. Students will also take part in simulated traffic stops and evidence collection.
The 11-week academy will begin on Dec. 11. The classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kentucky State Police Post in Hazard. Some sessions may be conducted at alternate locations. The academy will conclude on March 5. Anyone 18 years of age or older, living within the Kentucky State Police, Post 13 District may apply. The KSP Post 13 District consists of Breathitt, Perry, Leslie, Knott and Letcher counties. The class will be limited to 25 students. There is no cost to attend and participants must attend 80 percent of the classes to graduate. All applicants will be subject to a background check.
