KSP accepting applications for new Citizen’s Academy

The Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is accepting applications for the second annual Citizen’s Police Academy. The academy provides an in depth look at the Kentucky State Police, as well as an opportunity to interact with troopers. Topics covered include patrol, criminal investigations, and drug investigations. Students will also get to take part in simulated traffic stops and evidence collection.

The 11-week academy will begin on March 30. The classes will be held on Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the KSP Post in Hazard. Some sessions may be conducted at alternate locations. The academy will conclude on June 8.

Anyone 18 years of age, or older living within the KSP Post 13 District may apply. The KSP Post 13 District consists of Breathitt, Perry, Leslie, Knott, and Letcher counties. The class will be limited to 25 students. There is no cost to attend and participants must attend 80 percent of the classes to graduate. All applicants will be subject to a background check.

Applications are available from KSP Post 13. Applications may be picked up in person, or by visiting www.kentuckystatepolice. org/posts/post13. htm. Once completed, applications can be mailed to: Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, Attn: TFC Tony Watts, 100 Justice Drive, Hazard, KY 41701. Electronic applications may also be emailed to: tony.watts@ ky.gov. Applications must be submitted by Monday, March 15.
