FRANKFORT
Prison guards would face felony charges for having sexual contact with inmates under legislation that has been approved by the Senate.
The measure, which passed 37-0 on Tuesday, now goes to the House for consideration.
Republican state Sen. Tom Jensen of London, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the legislation would apply to workers in state prisons, private prisons contracting with the state, county jails and other detention facilities.
Jensen said violators could be charged with statutory rape or sodomy under the legislation.
The legislation is Senate Bill 17.
