Jenkins High School star Whitney Creech poured in 60 points and collected 15 rebounds Tuesday night to lead the Lady Cavaliers to a 75-65 win in the opening round of the 14th Regional Tournament at Powell County High School in Campton.

While helping her team advance to the tourney semifinals on Friday (March 4), Creech also came within 11 points of tying — and 12 points of breaking — the national high school scoring record of 5,424 points set by Adrian McGowen of Goodrich, Texas between 2003 and 2006.

Next up for Creech, who broke the Kentucky high school basketball scoring record when she scored her 4,957th point against Paintsville February 2, and her Lady Cavalier teammates is a matchup with tourney host Powell County at 8 p.m. on Friday.

Creech will enter the game with a points total of 5,415.
