The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers improved their season’s record to 24-5 last Friday with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Clintwood, Va. Entering action later this week, the Lady Cavs remained atop the 14th Region and were undefeated in the 53rd District (7-0) with four regular season games left on the schedule.
In the first game against Clintwood, the Lady Green Wave pitcher struggled with her control in the bottom of the first inning and walked five batters and Jenkins scored three runs.
In the second inning Jenkins got things started. With two outs Melissa Bartley singled and Mercedes Boggs also singled, scoring Bartley. Charity Niece then doubled to score Boggs, making the score 5-0.
Once again, in the fourth inning with two outs, Boggs got a walk and Niece doubled to drive in Boggs. Caitlynn Estevez singled and Rachel Spangler, courtesy runner for Niece, scored.
The Lady Cavs took a 7-0 lead going into the fifth inning. In the bottom, Whitney Creech had a bunt single and Ally DePriest moved her over. Creech stole third and Brittany Mullins doubled to bring her in.
In the sixth inning, Estevez singled, Lexi Stambaugh got a walk, and Ally DePriest doubled to score Taylor Johnson, courtesy runner for Estevez, and Stambaugh, to make the final score 10-0.
Charity Niece went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and 2 doubles. Estevez pitched a two-hit shutout.
In the second game the Lady Cavs kept up the same good play as Melissa Bartley singled, and Charity Niece continued the good hitting with a double to score Bartley.
In the fourth inning, Jenkins got six hits and scored five runs. The Lady Cavs got singles by Whitney Creech, Mckenzie Gibson, Brittany Mullins, and Charity Niece, to make the score 6-0.
In the fourth inning Clintwood got a lead off walk, a wild pitch moved the runner over, and a single and throwing error cut the Jenkins lead 6-1.
In the fifth, Lexi Stambaugh and Whitney Creech both singled and Ally De- Priest got a walk to load the bases. Brittany Mullins then singled to score both Creech and Stambaugh to take an 8-1 lead.
In the seventh Jenkins added three runs on hits by Mercedes Boggs, Charity Niece and Ally DePriest to make the final 11-3.
In the two games Charity Niece went 7-8 with three doubles.
