The Jenkins Lady Cavaliers were host to Knott County Central in a district matchup.
Things didn’t get started until the bottom of the second inning when Whitney Creech doubled to left field. McKenzie Gibson moved Creech to third on a sacrifice bunt, and she scored as Taylor Johnson reached base on an error.
In the third inning, Charity Niece picked up a single, Melissa Bartley got a walk and both runners moved over on a wild pitch. Caitlynn Estevez singled to left and scored Niece. Bartley was thrown out at home in an attempt to score from second. Courtesy runner Katie DePriest scored on a single from Whitney Creech and Jenkins took a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, Knott County tied the game as Loren Baker singled and Estevez gave up three walks to Faith Clutts and Fallon Slone to load the bases and Kamryn Thornsberry to score Baker. Lexi Slone then singled to right to score Clutts and Slone to tie the game at 3-3.
In the fifth inning, KCC’s Loren Baker once again singled and Jenkins made back-to-back errors, putting Faith Clutts and Kamryn Thornsberry on base again, which scored Baker and Clutts to give KCC a 5-3 lead. The Cavs had an answer in the bottom half of the inning. They loaded the bases with singles from Lexi Stambaugh, Melissa Bartley, Caitlynn Estevez and Whitney Creech, which scored Stambaugh. Bartley scored on a wild pitch and courtesy runner Katie Depriest scored on a throwing error that put McKenzie Gibson on base while Whitney Creech moved to third. Makayla Seals lay down a sacrifice bunt to score Creech and move Gibson to second. Taylor Johnson singled to move Gibson to third, before Gibson scored on a wild pitch. Rachel Spangler singled to left and scored Johnson to give Jenkins the 9-5 lead.
In the seventh, KCC picked up another run and made the final score 9-6 in favor of Jenkins.
The teams commited 10 errors, 6 by Jenkins and 4 by KCC. Jenkins had 9 runs on 12 hits, KCC had 6 runs on 4 hits.
