Lady Cougars are 3-1 after playing 4 games in 5 days

Coach Keith Baker’s Letcher County Central Lady Cougars opened the 2019-20 basketball season by playing four games in a five-day period and winning three of them.

The Lady Cougars opened the season last Wednesday night (December 4) with a 63 to 58 win at Belfry, followed by a close, 68 to 65, loss to visiting Prestonsburg on December 5. LCC bounced back with a 70 to 35 drubbing of Powell County in Stanton on Saturday and a convincing 57 to 45 win over visiting Johnson Central on Monday.

Kaylee Banks was perfect from the field in Monday’s win, connecting on all seven of her twopoint field goal attempts and her only three-point attempt while scoring a team-high 21 points. Banks also connected on four of six free throw attempts.

Brooklynn Collins and Loren Boggs each scored nine points in the win over Johnson Central. Other scorers were Tori Holcomb (7), Brooke Bates (5), Courtney Hayes (4), and Camryn Collins (2).

Brooklyn Collins hauled in 10 rebounds for the Lady Cougars and Kaylee Banks pulled down seven.

Kaylee Banks also led all LCC scorers in the win over Powell County with 16 points. Keira Couch scored 11 points after hitting four of five two-point field goal attempts and her only threepoint attempt. Brooke Bates was three-for-three from the field for six points, while Courtney Hayes, Brooklynn Collins, and Mackenzie Craft each scored five points. Also scoring for the Lady Cougars were Bailey Kincer (4 points), Jaylin Whitt (3), Tori Holcomb (3), Farrah Combs (2), Loren Boggs (2), and Heidi Bentley (1 point).

In the loss to Prestonsburg, Kaylee Banks again led LCC with 19 points. Mackenzie Craft scored 12 points and Brooklynn Collins added 11. Loren Boggs and Courtney Hayes each had six points, Brook Bates scored five points, Camryn Collins had four points, and Keira Couch scored two points.

Brooklyn Collins led the Lady Cougars in their opening win with 18 points. Kaylee Banks had 13 points in that game, while Loren Boggs and Brooke Bates each scored 10 points. Rounding out the scoring were Courtney Hayes (7), Mackenzie Craft (3), and Keira Couch (2).

LCC is scheduled to host Mountain Mission of Grundy, Virginia on Friday night before welcoming Betsy Layne to Ermine on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. tipoff in the Pine Mountain Classic.
