Lady Cougars off to 3-1 start

The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars reeled off three straight wins to open the 2018-19 basketball season before falling Monday night, 69 to 43, on the road at Johnson Central.

The Lady Cougars began play in the young season at home November 28 with a 90-19 win over Cordia. The girls then defeated home-standing Prestonsburg on November 30 (76 to 71), and visiting Powell County on December 1 by the score of 65-46.

Kaylee Banks led the Lady Cougars’ effort against Powell County with 15 points. Mackenzie Craft scored 12 points, and Brooklyn Collins and Emma Maggard had 10 points each. Alyssa Franklin added seven points, followed by four points from Brooke Bates, three from Keira Couch, and two points each by Loren Boggs and Camryn Collins.

Next up on the Lady Cougars’ schedule is a contest with June Buchanan at home on December 10 at 7:30 p.m., followed visits to Breathitt County on December 14 and to Madison Southern on December 15.
