Lady Cougars will play in regional

The Letcher County Central girls’ basketball team advanced to the finals of the 53rd District Tournament — and to the 14th Regional Tournament — by overwhelming Cordia at Ermine on Saturday, 78-13.

Twelve Lady Cougars scored in Saturday’s game, led by 13 points from Kyleigh Wright, 10 points from Loren Boggs, and 9 points from Kaylee Banks (No. 25). Brooke Bates scored eight points, Bailey Kincer and Heidi Bentley each scored seven points, and Keira Couch and Tori Holcomb scored six points apiece.

Four points by Jaylin Whitt, three points each by Sydney Craft and Kaylee Banks (No. 12), and two points by Farrah Combs rounded out the scoring for Letcher Central.

Jaylin Whitt led the Lady Cougars in rebounding with 10.

The Lady Cougars were scheduled to meet Knott County Central in Tuesday night’s district final. The Lady Patriots advanced to the final with a 75-29 win over June Buchanan.
