The Letcher County Central Lady Cougars defeated the June Buchanan School Monday night, 75 to 40, to advance to Thursday night’s final game of the 53rd District Tournament at Alice Lloyd College.
The title game, which tips off at 7 p.m., will pit the Lady Cougars (21-10) against the Knott Central Lady Patriots, who advanced the finals of the four-team district with a 65 to 19 win over Cordia on Monday. The Lady Patriots have a won-loss record of 18-11, but only regular-season game in the 14th Region, at Owsley County on February 10. Knott Central defeated the Lady Cougars twice in the regular season.
In their win over June Buchanan, the Letcher Central was led by 25 points from sophomore Kaylee Banks, who hit all nine of her field goal attempts, and 10 points from Brooke Bates. Brooklyn Collins scored 8 points, while Kyleigh Wright and Loren Bogg each scored 6. Three Lady Cougars — Jaylin Whitt, Bailey Kincer, and freshman Kaylee Banks — scored 4 points and two players — Keira Couch and Farrah Combs — scored three points. Tori Halcomb scored two points.
