Lady Cougars win JV tourney

The Letcher County Central High School girls’ junior varsity basketball team won the Kentucky State AAU-JV Tournament held June 13 through June 15 at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington. The Lady Cougars finished the tourney with a 5-0 record.

In the championship game, LCCHS defeated Louisville Sacred Heart in a close game, 43-30. Erica Meade led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 13 points, and Mryika Begley had 11 points. Kelah Eldridge scored 8 points and Lauren Thomas 7 points, and Chloe Wynn and Vannah Breeding added 2 points each.

Lauren Thomas led the scoring for the Lady Cougars with 12 points in the semifinal game against Whitley County, which lost to LCCHS by 20 points. The final scored was 44-24. Erica Meade had 10 points, Kelah Eldridge 8, Chloe Wynn 6, Mryika Begley 4, and Keisha Collins 4.

On June 14, LCCHS overcame Somerset with a score of 52-27. Kelah Eldridge led the Lady Cougars with 13 points including 3 3-pointers and 2 field goals. She was followed by Chloe Wynn with 11 points, Erica Meade and Mryika Begley with 8 each, Lauren Thomas with 7, Keisha Collins and Vannah Breeding with 2 each, and Rachel Baker with 1.

Against Pulaski County- Southwestern on June 13, LCCHS had a 30-point win, 58- 28. The top scored for the Lady Cougars was Kelah Eldridge with 18 points – 3 3-pointers and 3 field goals. Erica Meade has 8 points in the win, Mryika Begley 8, Lauren Thomas 6, and Ana Morris 5. Julie Cornett, Ari Nichols and Keisha Collins contributed 4 points each, and Emi Nicholas added 2.

In their first game of the tournament, the Lady Cougars defeated Louisville Sacred Heart with a score of 42-31. Lauren Thomas put in 13 points with 6 fields goals and a free throw, and Kelah Eldridge had 10 points with 2 3-pointers and 2 field goals. They were followed by Erica Meade with 8 points, Mryika Begley and Chloe Wynn with 4 each, Vannah Breeding with 2, and Keisha Collins with 1.
