LaMontes visit from Mississippi

Cowan

We are having beautiful summer weather. Some people are beginning to have some vegetables from their gardens. We have had a good season so far.

Several attended church at Little Cowan on Sunday. Not many coming or going, since many of our people are gone.

Get well wishes to our niece, Juanita Pitts in Tennessee, who has been pretty sick. We sure have missed their spring visit, and the others who used to come in during the spring.

Marsha Banks enjoyed a nice visit with Kay and other relatives this past week. I am sure she misses her family, as most of them live away.

Welcome to Kyle and Brandy, who are living on Cowan after their recent marriage.

Don’t forget the Gibson family reunion at the Cowan Community Center on Saturday. For some of us, it has already started.

Kathy and Sarah LaMonte arrived this past weekend. Sarah has graduated from high school and is looking forward to college. They report that all of the other Mississippians are doing well, and some of them will be coming in this week.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Bennett Combs, who had a birthday June 16.

Visiting Bennett and Linda for the Combs-Jones reunion were Regina and Christina Crawford, Watson Combs, Gerald and Elizabeth Combs Looney and their granddaughter Emma, Bill and Shade and Judy Jones, Carolyn Jones Sparks, Norma Jean and husband Stan, Shade’s daughter Misty and her two children, and Bill’s granddaughter. All came in from Naples, Fla.

They also visited their aunt, Madge Combs, at Letcher Manor.

Mel and Yvonne Brown Sutphin’s grandson, Derek Frame, was graduated from Liberty High School in Lynchburg, Va., last Friday. Happy birthday to Derek on July 5.

Get well wishes to Lois Brown Sturgill of Ohio. She is the daughter of the late George and Siller Brown, and was reared on Cowan. Lois had back surgery last week.

Jessica Boggs of Dry Fork and Keshia Allen of Cornettsville, recently went on the trip to Charleston, S.C. They visited Fort Sumpter, Boone Hall and Drayton Hall plantations, and took a carriage ride through the city. Jessica attends Campbellsville University, and Keshia is a student at Alice Lloyd College.

Happy birthday to Dustin Crawford of Indianapolis on July 3, and Shade Boggs on July 6. They are grandsons of Bennett and Linda Combs.
