Last week was a sad week for many

Bardstown

Seems last week was a sad week for many people.

On May 3, Enrique Gabriel Torres was laid to rest at a graveside service. He was the infant son of Crystal and Lupe Torres. She is a cousin to my friend Kathy Beavers.

On Sunday, May 2, the same day that my own mother, Judy Branham, died, Kathy’s mother-inlaw Ethel Beavers also went home to be with the Lord.

I want to say that I appreciate everyone who has extended their concern and their condolences and thank anyone and all those who helped Mom in some way through her illness with prayers or another form of assistance and caring

We had heavy rains that weekend also and there was a lot of storm damage. Some areas had severe thunderstorm warnings that included egg-sized hail. We were lucky we didn’t get any. The rain didn’t stop the Kentucky Derby either. I watched a few of the races, but it usually isn’t something I’ve really gotten into. Seems everyone around the Lexington area is into it.

Mrs. Newton’s first-grade class went to the Derby Dinner Playhouse on May 6 as their year-end field trip. On the 24th and 25th, the fourth-grade class at Bardstown Elementary is going to go to Camp Poingmingo (spelling is bad) for their field trip.

Parkway Baptist Church has announced that its members Leon and Lynn Muir have been called to serve the Lord as missionaries in New Guinea. On May 22, Paula Stefanovich will lead a choir retreat. The Vacation Bible School at Parkway Baptist will be June 14-18.

In children’s ministry news, family game night is Sunday at 6 p.m., however it was cancelled for Mother’s Day. May 16 is the final “The Zone” night. It is a program where the parents and kids worship together. Kids’ party night is May 19.

Happy birthdays go out to Chad Stidham, who was one year older on May 8, and Teddy Sturgill on May 18.

In positive news, among all the layoff s and business closings American Greetings called back 15 of its employees who had been previously let go. Sykes recently held a job fair and is working on calling people to hire them or set up additional interviewing.

Prayer list this week includes along with our family, Crystal and Lupe Torres, June Clark, Kathy and Junior Beavers, Randall Mattingly, Jim Hardesty, Tony Phillips, David and Becky Gordon, Samantha Gaffney, Tony and Brenda Gross, Angie Hornback, Jeff Lester, Sherry Roberts, Jody Avery, Jimmy Beavers, Paula Humphrey, Kelsey Humphrey, Alma York, Angela Newton, Shirley and Joseph Downs, and Barry Adams.

I guess that’s the news for this week. May everyone be blessed.
