Lavada Pennell dies

Funeral services for Lavada Sturgill Pennell, 86, of Cumberland, formerly of Big Cowan, will be held at noon, February 14, at the Tri-Cities Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in the Pennell-Sturgill Cemetery at Big Cowan.

A daughter of the late George and Alabama Maggard Sturgill, she was the widow of Willie Pennell and the mother of the late Sallie Lavunda Stamper and Georgia McClain Neace. She died at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital on February 10, one day before her 87th birthday.

Surviving are a son, James Gilbert Hardin and wife Denise, Cram Creek; four daughters, Allie Lorine Banks and husband Danny, New Tazewell, Tenn.; Ernestine Ruth Roberts and husband Lonnie, Ovenfork; Louie Joanne Fields and husband Jay, and Mary Rita Eldridge and husband Daniel, all of Cumberland; 34 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren.

Letcher Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
