Lawson Sexton dies at 77

Funeral services for Lawson Sexton, 77, were held September 5 at the Neon Church of Christ. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.

Born in Jackhorn to the late Cordelia Burks Sexton and Lute Sexton, he died August 29 at Pikeville Medical Center.

Mr. Sexton was preceded in death by four siblings, Bobby Gene, Otis, Imogene, and Nadine.

Mr. Sexton, also known as “Red-Eye”, had worked as an underground coalminer for Beth-Elkhorn Coal Corp., and as an automotive mechanic at the Gulf Station in Neon and the Chevron Station at Haymond.

He had been a member of the Church of Christ since he was a teenager.

Surviving are a son, Bryan Lawson Sexton and wife Toby of Coeburn, Va.; a granddaughter, Hannah; and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Maggard of Columbus, Oh.

Everidge Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
