New York Times bestselling author John Grisham was in Whitesburg last week, apparently researching material for a possible new book.
Grisham’s presence in Whitesburg became known after a Facebook posting from an employee at Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center, which is located on Main Street in downtown Whitesburg.
Mary Cromer, a lawyer at the firm with whom Grisham apparently met on Feb. 19, declined to comment about the celebrated author’s visit to Letcher County.
“ I don’t really want to talk about it,” said Cromer. “I want to respect his privacy.”
Grisham is a best-selling author of legal thrillers including The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Client, The Last Juror and The Broker.
Grisham’s most recent novel, Sycamore Row, is set in the fictional town of Clanton, Mississippi, which was also the setting for his first novel, 1988’s A Time to Kill. It was adapted into a Broadway play that ended November 17, 2013.
