Close but no cigar pretty much sums up the result of recent games played by the Letcher County Central Cougars.
This past Saturday’s 60 to 52 overtime loss at Floyd Central marked the third time in four games the Cougars (3-12) nearly pulled out their fourth win of the season. The latest heartbreaking loss for LCC comes after a 55 to 50 loss at Harlan County on January 6 and 68 to 66 loss to visiting Harlan on January 16.
Game statistics for the Floyd Central game weren’t yet available at Mountain Eagle press time. In the loss to Harlan County earlier last week, the Cougars were led by 20 points by Parker Williams, 15 points from Dylan Webb, and 14 points by Ryan Lebrun, who connected on four of the seven threepoint field goals he attempted. Also scoring were Joby Johnson (eight points), Matthew Dicks (five points), and Bodie Bentley and Isaac Lucas (each with two points). Isaiah Adams played but did not score.
Dylan Webb led all Cougar rebounders with 12. Parker Williams pulled down 10 rebounds.
Letcher Central was scheduled to host Buckhorn last night, then travel to games at Knott County Central Thursday night (7:30) and at Estill County on Saturday (3:30).
