LCC boys win fifth straight

The surging Letcher County Central Cougars defeated East Ridge High School Monday night, 65 to 52, marking their fifth straight win and their eighth victory in the 11 games they had played in 2019, going into Tuesday night’s game against Cordia.

The Cougars also recorded wins last week against Estill County, 61 to 31, and Pike County Central, 49 to 39. LCC will be on the road February 7, at Paintsville, and February 8, at Powell County. The Cougars will finish their regular season schedule with a home game against Hazard on February 12 and a road game at Perry County

Central on Valentine’s Day.

Center Tyler Boggs led the Cougars’ attack at East Ridge with 26 points, 10 of them coming during first quarter that saw LCC jump to a 20 to 14 lead. The Cougars got 14 points from Greg Kincer, nine from Trevor Hardin, and seven points each from Caleb Stidham and Dylan Webb. Dakota Shepherd had two points.

On February 2, Greg Kincer scored eight points in the first quarter as the Cougars took a commanding, 19 to 5, lead over Estill County in a game played at Whitesburg. Kincer ended up with 10 points on the night, behind Tyler Boggs’s team-high 16 points.

Parker Williams scored nine points, Trevor Hardin added eight points, and Caleb Stallard chipped in with fives points for LCC. Kenton Combs had five points, Joby Johnson four points, and Ryan Lebrun two points to round out the scoring for the Cougars.

In their win at Pike Central on January 31, the Cougars were led in scoring by Greg Kincer (14 points), Tyler Boggs (12), Dylan Webb (eight), and Caleb Stidham (seven points). Dakota Shepherd tallied four points and Ryan Lebrun and Parker Williams scored two points apiece.
