Letcher Central defeated Floyd Central 41-14 in a dominating first half performance. Hunter Campbell and Hayden Brashear had two touchdowns apiece and the LCC defense shut down the Jaguar offense to get a much-needed victory heading into the playoffs this week.

Floyd Central received the ball to begin the game. After a first down conversion, on 2nd-and-12, LCC linebacker Zach Hensley sacked quarterback Caleb Hager for a 10-yard loss, which led to a punt.

On 2nd-and-10, LCC running back Hunter Campbell gained 14 yards on a toss sweep to the left. Two plays later facing a 3rd-and-4, Campbell ran over a defender on his way to a 12-yard gain down to the Floyd Central 23-yard line. Hayden Brashear would then score on a trap play up the middle for a 23-yard touchdown. The extra point was good by Eric Chesley to give the Cougars an early 7-0 lead.

The LCC defense forced a 3-and-out. The punt was downed at the Jaguar 43-yard line to give the LCC offense great field position.

Alex Blair gained 15 yards on a reverse which led to a 15-yard touchdown run by Campbell. The extra point sailed through the upright to increase the lead to 14-0.

The Cougar defense forced a fumble on 3rd-and-8 that it recovered at the Jaguar 28-yard line.

After a penalty on 2nd-and-long, LCC quarterback Carson Adams threw a swing pass to Campbell who used a nifty juke fake to gain 29 yards and a first down. Campbell would score one play later on a 24-yard run on a toss sweep with numerous excellent blocks. The extra point was blocked to keep the score at 20-0 with 8:52 left in the second quarter.

Floyd Central went for it on 4th-and-1 on its own 40-yard line, and the running back was stuffed for a loss by numerous LCC defenders for a turnover on downs.

Campbell gained 12 yards on another sweep to begin the drive. On the next play Alex Blair got the handoff on a counter play and sprinted to the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown. The extra point gave LCC a 27-0 lead.

Wyatt Ison broke in front of a Jaguar receiver and intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown to make it 34-0.

After forcing yet another 3 and out, Campbell had a 19-yard gain to take the ball deep into Floyd Central territory. Brashear would take it in from 9 yards away for a touchdown and the extra point made it 41-0 and a running clock for the rest of the game just before halftime.

LCC defensive lineman Sam Mullins had a sack and forced fumble on the last play of the first half.

LCC got the ball to start the second half and was forced into a 3-and-out. A bad snap went by the punter, who had to run back and fall on it at the LCC 1-yard line. Floyd Central would punch it in on the next play to make it 41-6 after the twopoint conversion attempt failed.

Floyd Central scored one more time right before time expired and the two-point conversion made the final score 41-14 in favor of the Cougars.

Hunter Campbell led the LCC offense with 98 yards rushing on 8 attempts with 2 touchdowns. Alex Blair had 53 yards on 5 rushes and a touchdown. Hayden Brashear gained 36 yards on 5 attempts with 2 touchdowns. Carson Adams completed 3 passes on 5 attempts for 46 yards but the LCC rushing attack was so potent that the Cougars simply never needed to pass the ball.

The LCC defense was spearheaded by Sam Mullins who had 6 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Koby Barnette, Jepatha Griffith, Jayson Buttrey and Sam Little had 5 tackles each for the Cougars.

Letcher Central now must travel to Paintsville for the first round of the playoffs, at 10-0 Johnson Central, a team that crushed the Cougars two weeks ago. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
