LCC girls honored

The 14th Region Coaches Association has named its All Region Team for the 2008-09 basketball season.

Letcher County Central High School senior Sharaye Kincer was named Co-Player of the Year, sharing the honor with Kendall Noble of Breathitt County.

Kincer averaged 12.5 points, along with 9.5 rebounds, three steals, and two assists per game. She was also chosen the 14th Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. That honor allows Kincer to participate in the Kentucky Indiana All Star Tryouts at Campbellsville College on April 17 and 18.

Brittany Sexton, a junior at Letcher Central, was also selected to the 14th All Region Team. Sexton averaged 12.5 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, and 2.5 steals per game.

Kincer and senior Tierra Baker represented the Lady Cougars in the Gatorade/Adidas Senior All Star game held April 3 at Leslie County High School in Hyden.

Brittany Sexton and eighth grader Kelah Eldridge participated in the Gatorade/Adidas Underclassmen All Star Game held prior to the senior game. The Lady Cougars finished the season with a record of 28-5, a district championship, and a runner-up finish in the 14th Region Tournament — a 19-game improvement from the previous year.

Kincer and Sexton, along with several other Lady Cougars, will participate in the 14th Region Coaches Association All Star games held on April 26 at Perry County Central. There will be a senior game, a junior game, and a sophomore and under game for the boys and girls that day.
