Lee Roy Combs celebrates Christmas birthday

Blackey

I had news I wanted to send out before Christmas, but we lost our power early Saturday morning and it didn’t come back on until Tuesday evening. So some of my news is a little late.

My heart goes out to the family of Phillip Newton, who was killed in a mining accident on Dec. 16. My husband Lee Roy and my son Justin both work at the same mine, and talked about what a good person he was. My sympathy to his family.

Bill Gibson of Isom had to be put in the hospital a few weeks ago. He has had a problem with his foot and it set up gangrene. Now his leg has to be taken off from the knee down. He is in Haz- ard Appalachian Regional Hospital, and they said for his age and what he’s been through, that he is doing well. Bill is 105 years old.

Wesley Dixon of Carcassone has been in Louisville Kosair Hospital. He was admitted on a Monday night and was in ICU until that Wednesday, when he was able to get off of oxygen and was put in a regular room. He is the son of John and Jenny Dixon. Thankfully he was able to come home before Christmas and is doing well.

A belated happy 25th anniversary wish to Greg and Della Caudill of Carcassonne on Dec. 22, and a belated happy birthday to my husband Lee Roy on Dec. 25. We had his birthday party and our family get-together at the Carcassonne Community Center on Christmas Day.

Christmas dinner was held at Ann Frazier’s in Knott County on Sunday. Ann’s son Craig, his wife Nattier and son Jake came in from Raytown, Mo., for the holidays. We were not able to make it, but they said she had some great food as she always does.

I had to take my son Justin to the emergency room. He had been sick for about three days. He had to have an IV of fluids because he was dehydrated. He was doing better after a couple of days.

My mom Jean Blair has been to the hospital and doctor about three times with bronchitis. She gets it bad every year and takes a long time to get over it. She is doing some better now.

Happy birthday to Debbie Caudill Bowling of Bull Creek, and Laura Caudill of Lexington had one on Dec. 28. She is the daughter of Jerry and Vondy Caudill of Elk Creek. Whitney Haynes of Letcher had one on Dec. 25. She is the daughter of Mike and Diane Haynes.

Bill Johnson had to be taken to Lexington and put in a hospital. He couldn’t be taken off the ventilator in Pikeville without having breathing problems, so they sent him there. They were doing scans and running tests on him.

His grandson Shane Dixon went to Lexington for surgery. He had a leakage in his brain that had to be stopped. He is the son of Jina Back of Woodrock. I wish Bill and Shane the best.

Helen Engle of Carcassonne had to be taken by ambulance to the Whitesburg ARH emergency room. She has had a virus and is diabetic, and she collapsed. They said later that she was dehydrated and hypoglycemic. Hopefully she’ll feel better soon.

Congratulations to Sarah and Chris Porter of Catlettsburg on the birth of their first child. Mary Isabella Porter was born on Dec. 21, and weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 21 1/2 inches long. Sarah is the daughter of Virgil and Freda Combs of Carcassonne. They brought the baby in on Saturday for Freda and Virgil to see.

Laura Mae Adams of Jeremiah has been in the hospital in Pikeville for knee replacement surgery. I hope she feels better soon.

Congratulations to Phillip and Mashawna Caudill on the birth of their second child. Zoe Isabella Caudill was born on Dec. 21, and weighed 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19 inches long. She has a big brother, Jacob. The grandparents are Bruce and Rita Gilley of Letcher, Debbie and Fairless Collins of Whitesburg, and Robert and Judy Caudill of Cowan.

I want to wish all my family and friends a safe and happy New Year.
