Lela Scott Collier succumbs at 88

Funeral services for Lela Scott Collier, 88, of Partridge, were held November 2 in Benham. Burial was in the Holly Ridge Cemetery at Partridge.

A daughter of the late Sam and Lina Boggs Scott, she was born in Rhoda, Va. She was the mother of the late Roger Wayne Collier, and a sister of the late Talmadge Scott, Clyde Scott, Winfield Scott, Clemon Scott, and Hattie Christy.

Mrs. Collier was a school teacher at Franks Creek during World War II, and was the school secretary at Eolia Elementary School. She was a member of the Little Cowan Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Orville Collier Sr.; a son, Orville Collier Jr. and wife Valus, Cumberland; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Collier, Partridge; a brother, Sam Scott Jr., Johnson City, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Diane Collier Watts and husband Rick, Partridge; Jeffrey Wayne Collier and wife Jenny, Somerset; Greg Collier and wife Kim, Harlan; and Brian Collier and wife Sherry, Lexington; and seven great-grandchildren, Chapman Collier, Katie Collier, Morgan Collier, Jill Collier, Blake Watts, Issiah Collier, and Abby Collier.
