Letcher County given grant

Letcher County has received a $6,600 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) mini-grant from the Center for Rural Development to promote cultural tourism and fight drug and alcohol abuse among local teens.

Letcher County Judge/Executive Jim Ward and representatives of the Cowan Community Action Group accepted the grant from officials with The Center, ARC, and Kentucky Department for Local Government at the “Developing and Implementing Community Strategies” Summit, held Dec. 10 at the Rural Law Enforcement Technology Center in Hazard.

Letcher County will use the funds to support and promote cultural tourism, and fight drug and alcohol abuse among teens. The county will provide a match of $1,650 for a total project cost of $8,250.
