Letcher grand jury says five stole Kentucky Power lines



Five Letcher County men are named by the Letcher County Grand Jury in five indictments each charging them with theft of copper wire from Kentucky Power Company.

Elijah Duane Garrett, 35, of 774 Hwy. 2035, Little Cowan Road, Whitesburg; Jesse Dean Craft Jr., 42, of 148 Grizzly Hollow Road, Whitesburg; Brack Larry Joe Meade, 38, of 7838 Hwy. 119 S., Eolia; James Wayne Johnson, 36, of 91 Hall’s Branch, Whitesburg; and Christopher B. Duff, 29, of P.O. Box 332, Neon, are charged criminal complicity to theft of property valued at more than $500 and criminal complicity to criminal mischief (first degree). The grand jury says in addition to the theft of the copper wire, the men damaged or destroyed electrical power lines, circuits and other equipment belonging to American Electric Power.

The five indictments say the offenses took place from November to March.

In addition to the theft and criminal mischief charges, the grand jury says Meade is a persistent felony offender.

Letcher County Sheriff ’s Lt. Brian Damron testified in the cases.
