Letcher County native Amy Hogg has published her first book, a novel for children called “Callie Rose.”

Set in Appalachia, the book follows Callie during the summer when she turns 12. Mama has left the family, and Callie and her brother are spending the summer with Granny and Pap. She chases adventures with Olive Ellis (who smokes cigarettes), tolerates her annoying cousin Marlene, and cares for a baby goat named Heidi. She helps Pap catch a snapping turtle and pressures Daddy to get his black lung test. She learns that things can change between 11 and 12.

The book is published by Motes Books of Louisville. Copies are available locally at the Cozy Corner in Whitesburg or online from amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, powells.com and other online outlets.
