Letcher Schools to remain closed until May 1Free Access

Letcher County Schools will be closed for at least another month due to the coronovirus pandemic that continues to spread.
Superintendent Denise Bates said Friday that on the recommendation of the governor, Letcher County Schools will be closed through May 1, and students will continue to use Non-Traditional Instruction.
“ As well, the growing concerns of the spread of COVID-19, Letcher County Schools will be making changes to our food service delivery plan,” Yonts said in a prepared statement. “Beginning Monday, April 6, meals will be available for pick up only at Martha Jane Potter Elementary, Cowan Elementary, Letcher Elementary, Arlie Boggs Elementary, and West Whitesburg Elementary from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. We will not be delivering meals at this time to help limit the exposure of our students, families, and staff.”
The schools have been delivering meals along bus routes.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause; however, safety is our priority. When it is safe, we will start delivering meals again,” Yonts said. “As always, our family resource centers are available, please contact your school for assistance. We are here to support our families during this crisis.”
Jenkins Independent School District has not yet made an announcement about its plans.
