Letcher to join in CDC grant targeting obesity

It was recently announced that the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will be involved with programs related to a grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Letcher County. Initial planning for the grant work is already underway and will continue for three years.

Letcher County is one of six counties in Kentucky the CDC targeted as having a 40 percent or higher obesity rate. The other counties included are Clinton, Elliott, Lewis, Logan and Martin. There will be many community partners involved to plan programs related to the importance of promoting physical activity and healthy nutrition as a means to bringing down the 40 percent number. Other information about local related activities will be available as the program proceeds.
