Enforcement might have prevented wreck

To the Editor:

What a shame that a driver is being forced to spend the holidays recovering from severe injuries after his vehicle struck a coal truck that had been parked on a highway shoulder at Mayking for at least two days.

Let us hope that local law enforcement, the Kentucky State Police, and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement will show more concern for the safety of the public in 2008 and begin enforcing the critically important safety regulations that exist that prohibit people from using highway shoulders as parking spaces. This crash is a perfect example of why these safety regulations were put into place.
