The summer reading program at the Letcher County Public Libraries began June 14 and will continue for six weeks. The theme is “Dig Into Reading” and the program is focusing on discovering the mysteries and learning about the underground world. Topics include dinosaurs, ancient Egypt, animal tales, crystal and caves and something with which Letcher County is very familiar — coal.
The schedule is: Fleming Neon Public Library, Wednesdays at 2 p.m. (855- 7913). Blackey Public Library, Thursdays at 2 p.m. (633-4013). Jenkins Public Library, Thursdays at 1 p.m. (832-4101). Harry M. Caudill Memorial Library (Whitesburg), children, Thursday at 11 a.m.; teens, Fridays at 2 p.m. (633- 7547).
The libraries are partnering with the Letcher County School Summer Reading Feeding Program and meals and snacks are provided.
