Hello all, I hope this finds you doing well. As usual, I find myself needing to say sorry for my absence. Life gets crazy with two little boys to tend to. It seems like it is always late Monday afternoon before I find a second to even think about writing and by then it is too late to send anything in. I mean well, I really do, but having the time to put pen to paper or maybe I should say, fingers to the keys, doesn’t come easily around our house. Don’t give up on me when I disappear, I promise to get back to writing as soon as I can.
Did you have a good Easter weekend? Ours went well. On Saturday we took the boys to Kaytlin Morgan’s birthday party at the Pavilion in Hazard. Kaytlin is the daughter of Dandy Walters and Stan Morgan. Her grandparents are Virgil and Freda Combs. Our family adores Kaytlin, and we were thankful to be invited. The boys really enjoyed spending some time in the pool and were not happy when we told them it was time to go.
Sunday, we had a cookout with the family at Mom’s, let the kids hunt eggs, and then later we spent the afternoon with Michael’s parents. The weather was nice all weekend; that was definitely a plus.
After having dinner at Mom and Dad’s house, I was able to go out and check on my grandma, Lucy (Halcomb) Blair. She looked lovely in pink, and said she was feeling pretty well. I am glad to see that she is doing better. I spoke a few words with Chuck Crawford, who was visiting too. It’s nice to see him out and about now that the weather has warmed up.
Mom, Sylvania Whitaker, was feeling weak, but she looked more like herself than she has the last few times I’ve been down to see her. She had soup beans, cornbread, meat ‘n potatoes (I think it was pork chops), as well as slew of other goodies cooked up for us. Needless to say, I ate too much. No one’s cooking can compare to my Momma’s. Mom’s eyes are doing well after her cataract surgeries. She can’t wear her old glasses anymore, and has been able to go without wearing any except when she is reading. I am not use to seeing her without glasses; it is hard to get used to. She will be going back to have her eyes checked and a new set of glasses made as soon as her eyes have fully healed. On the 20th, she has hernia surgery scheduled in Lexington. Hopefully this is the final step in the process to get her back on the transplant list.
Dad, Allen Whitaker, hasn’t been doing too well lately; he has had bronchitis and has been smothering some. I believe he now has pneumonia and needs to go back to the doctor, but you can’t tell that thick-skulled Whitaker a thing. Not that I would admit to knowing anything about being a thick-skulled Whitaker. Ha.
Esteva Blair had been in the hospital with pneumonia, but is home now. I was glad to see the ambulance bringing her back. I know she is happier at home, as we all are, especially when we are sick. Mom spoke with Burl and he said she is doing a little better.
Stella Mae Blair is at Letcher Manor Nursing Home doing therapy after her knee surgery last month. Dad was there for church and he said he brought her in to enjoy the services with them. I hope she is doing well enough to come home soon.
Maurice Collie and Marcie Blair both had surgery recently. They are both home and doing well, thankfully.
I would like to send out belated happy birthday wishes to Kayla Hensley and Caitlin Webb on March 25, Josh Whitaker, 26th ; Marissa Collie, 27th; Becky Collie, 28th; Phillip Albers, 31st, David Jent and Kaytlin Morgan, April 3; Raymond Collie, 5th; Garret Hensley, James Whitaker, and Taytam Webb, 12th.
Also, I wanted to specifi- cally send a belated happy birthday wish to my wonderful uncle, Johnny Roy Whitaker. He celebrated his 49th birthday on March 25. He was sure to point out that I hadn’t put his birthday in the paper yet, so here it is. Happy birthday, Johnny!! Oh, and Aunt Tammy, did you notice that I made a point of saying it was his 49th birthday, just like you asked? Everyone will surely notice he is nearly half a century old. Just teasing you, Johnny! I love you lots! I hope your birthday was a great one!
Sarah Maggard will celebrate her birthday on April 16, Wayne Fields, 17th; and Ashley Hensley as well as Tevin Williams will celebrate on the 18th. I hope your special days are filled with all the love and laughter in the world.
James and April Whitaker celebrated their wedding anniversary on April 1. Congratulations to you two. I hope you had a wonderful anniversary and have many more love-filled years together!
