The Neon Lions Club met Tuesday night, May 4.

It was so refreshing to once again participate in normal, everyday life after a year of quarantine and isolation. Here in Letcher County there has been a tremendous drop in the case of COVIS-19 due to the COVID vaccine. However we still have a long way to go and it seems that nationwide the vaccine is available to anyone and everyone.

However skepticism is running high and fewer people are participating and getting the vaccine due to fears of previous side effects and even death.

The media seems to be reporting a negative side of the vaccine rather than the positive outcome. One must remember that God is in charge of all things and we must pray daily and the Bible tells us that, “faith can move mountains.”

On this Tuesday night in May, the Neon Lions Club is once again in a move to uplift the community. Tonight’s meeting paints a picture of community strength as 19 individuals are present, including three guests who intend to become members of our organization. Those individuals are Linda Collins and sons, Robert and Stamper Collins, of the Neon area, and we welcome them.

Members of the Neon Lions Club met May 4 for their first supper in more than a year.

Members of the Neon Lions Club met May 4 for their first supper in more than a year.

The group gathered together tonight and our first supper meal for over a year, prepared by the women of the Church of Neon as we wish to thank them for their participation in their efforts. After the supper of chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, cake and soft drinks, the club heard the minutes of the last meeting and a summary of the treasury report.

Marshall Bevans received his Key Club Award presented by Lion Mark Wagner and President Jason Adams. Lion Mark is now recovering from surgery. Marshall was absent the night the first presentations were made and was not pictured in that presentation, and Lion Mark was not present at our last meeting due to surgery. So tonight Marshall was presented with his award.

In our discussion we revisited our intended projects for the year. The discussion concerning the raffle of a Henry rifle and the project donation for the University of Kentucky basketball tickets. More details coming later.

Also discussed was the election of officers for the upcoming year. Most were in agreement to continue with the present positions they are now holding, with the exception of one position however more thought will be given and the decision will be given later.

The motion was then made to adjourn, and so be it.
