Lions Club to sponsor Little League team

There was a good crowd out for the recent Neon Community Lions Club meeting. Lots of pre-meeting activity was taking place, along with an exceptional kind of humor.

Lion Richard G. Hall was on a roll with his little short stories about life. Secretary Lion Mark Wagner and Treasurer Terry Sturgill were busy as students before a semester test, crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s on their reports.

The ladies of the Neon Church of God were buzzing around setting out the buffet of good old-fashioned food. On the menu were pinto beans, sauerkraut, Polish sausage, salmon cakes and potatoes. Also there was dessert, along with coffee and soda beverages.

When the meeting came to order, several discussions took place. The club had received a flyer from the state organization concerning the state convention taking place in Lexington May 3-5. Our club discussed helping sponsor the activity and a motion was made and accepted to place an ad in the activity program book. Lion Vice President Macy Cook reported that Walmart had sent the club a gift card. Also a motion was made and accepted to sponsor the Little League Baseball team again this year. The club began sponsoring Little League in 1961.

The drawing was held for two sets of tickets to the University of Kentucky/Arkansas basketball game in Lexington. The winners of the tickets were Joe Campbell and Randall Adams.

The club would like to thank everyone who supports all its efforts for the community. As club members always say, “We are the Neon Community Lions Club and we service.”
