Local elementary students compete in entrepreneurship

Students from Arlie Boggs Elementary School and Letcher Middle School recently participated in a regional entrepreneurship competition/fair in Hazard.

At the event, coordinated by the Morehead State University School of Business, MSU Enactus team, and Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative’s Appalachian Renaissance Initiative, students from 12 schools set up displays, prototypes and business plans. MSU faculty, staff members and students then judged the businesses.

LMS’s business, Crazy Carnival, was first in the sixth grade competition. Finishing second was LMS’s Andy Dandy, and tied for third were ABES’s Cute as a Button and Crafty Corner.

In seventh grade category, ABES’s Cozy Corner tied for first along with ABES’s Cameron and Seth’s Painting.

ABES’s Math Masters was first among eighth grade businesses, while LMS’s BarbeQ Goodies was second.
