Local rock band will open WMMT series




September 20 will mark the debut of a brand-new concert series, WMMT’s Rock Live!, the station has announced.

Beginning this Thursday at 8 p.m., WMMT-FM in Whitesburg will regularly spotlight local rock and roll bands from throughout the station’s listening area in central Appalachia.

The concerts will take place in the 150-seat Appalshop theater and will feature both live performances and on-stage interviews. WMMT will record the first hour of the live show for broadcast the following Sunday at 7 p.m. on The Rock Show with Greg Napier.

The first band to be welcomed to the Appalshop stage is Wayne Graham a young and talented rock/Americana band from Letcher County. The band released a full-length album earlier this year, Brighter By Now, that features a crisp, catchy sound grounded in such classic acts as Wilco, Ryan Adams, Paul McCartney and Paul Simon.

Wayne Graham’s performance in sponsored in part by Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation’s new In-School Clinic Program and will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets are $10.
