Log splitter eases work at bakery

Go to our Facebook page for announcements and pictures posted after each event, www.facebook.com/ pages/ Hemphill- Community-Center, www.facebook.com/Hemphillblacksheep.

Check out our two new websites: www.hemphillcenter.org and www.blacksheepbrickoven.org.

Our new log splitter was delivered this past week on Friday and the good guys in our community gathered to put it together. It was a blessing to see it. It sure will make our firewood cutting and stoking the oven easier and more efficient. It’s a blessing.

Special thanks to Kenneth Meade, Roy Tackett, Stan Osborne, Frankie Bentley, Randy Hayes and all the other community hands who help make a light load out of such heavy work. Thanks also to our new friend Campbell Robinson, conducting research on an article he is writing, who also lent a hand with the log splitter. The Four Seasons Martial Arts class always helps with heavy lifting. We are so thankful for all our good volunteers and all the Black Sheep. We are grateful for you guys.

We have been having young musicians who are showing up to do open mic when the featured musicians at Friday Nite Supper Club take a break. There is a 30-minute break in between usually from 7:45 and 8:15 p.m. The featured musicians play two 45-minute sets starting at 7 and ending at 9 p.m. and play a variety of genres. Aspiring musicians and veteran musicians are always welcome to show up and perform. It’s always fun to play or listen. There is no cover charge so it’s always a laidback easy crowd to play for. Come join us in supporting local live music by local singer/picker/ songwriters while dining on good Black Sheep Brick Oven Bakery foods.

We decided to place our unsold bread outside in coolers on Saturday mornings for folks to take. It will be left on the outside stage until a more suitable arrangement can be made to dispense it. This preservative-free bread will not last long in this heat. We hope folks come and take it on Saturdays before it sits too long in the heat. It will keep almost a week at room temperature. It will feed the belly and feed the soul. If you are hungry, show up early so you can get a loaf. We want you to have first pick.

Very important note: John Ng’s Four Seasons Martial Arts will be meeting henceforth till further notice on Sunday evenings, 5 p.m. Master Frank Sexton is instructor.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings are being held at Hemphill Community Center. We are proud to host these meeting for those on the recovery road. Meetings will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. weekly. All are welcome.

The Digging Up Roots Ancestry Forum is meeting on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Participants are really enjoying themselves. This week’s workshop is on July 25. Participants are invited to bring a laptop or tablet, and paper and pen. This will a free bimonthly workshop offered courtesy of Jo Ann Hall Osborne. For more information, call (606) 855-4463.

You have an open invitation to come and hang out with us at the Center when you can. We have Wi-Fi now so kids and adults are better satisfied not being cut off from their electronic devices. We also have a playground and a walking track so bring the whole family for a visit. Regardless of differences in education, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or perceived differences, all are welcome and will be treated with justice and friendship. It’s a hate free zone and you are invited! Come and linger among friends!
