The Reverend Jerry Utt, II, a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Whitesburg, shared his goodbyes with fellow Rotarians at the February 12 Rotary meeting. He will be moving to Versailles to pastor Troy Presbyterian Church and plans to look for a Rotary Club in the Versailles area once he is settled.
He came to Whitesburg in 2005 to pastor Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church. It did not take long before he was actively involved in the Letcher County Food Pantry, where he served as secretary/treasurer from 2006 to 2019. He was selected to participate in the 2007 Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange in the Philippines, where he had the opportunity to experience the culture, observe how their vocations were practiced, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas. During his stay in the Philippines, he along with other professionals attended Rotary Clubs and social events and shared information about the culture of this area.
Reverend Utt was inducted in the Rotary Club of Whitesburg in 2007 and held various offices including serving as Rotary president for the 2014-15 year. He was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow in June 2015 and again in March 2018. This recognition is the Rotary Foundation’s way of expressing appreciation for a substantial contribution to its humanitarian and educational programs that can improving living conditions, increase food production, provide better education, and make available treatment and rehabilitation to the sick and disabled worldwide.
Reverend Utt commented that he has enjoyed his time here and working with community partners to improve the quality of life in Letcher County and Whitesburg. “I will miss being part of the local community and the many friendships I leave behind.”
On behalf of the members of the Rotary Club of Whitesburg, President Eileen Sanders thank Reverend Utt for his dedication and service to Rotary and wished him the best as he begins a new chapter in his life.
