Lorraine Mercer dies at 94

Lorraine Verna Marie “Ree” Yonts Mercer, 94, died May 22.

Born in McRoberts to the late Farris Yonts and Ada Sue Collins Yonts, she was the widow of David Mercer.

She was the mother of the late Verna Sue Correa, Cora Darlene Mercer, and David W. Mercer, and a great-grandmother of the late Christopher Ault, Brandy Ault, Kayla Welcher and Regan Wolfe.

Mrs. Mercer was also preceded in death by siblings, William Curtis Yonts, Ralph Yonts, James Leslie Yonts, Clyde Yonts, Herbert D. Yonts, Eugene B. Yonts, and Stella D. Pedigo.

Surviving are a daughterin law, Tina Mercer; two brothers, Harold Russel Yonts and wife Minerva, and Duane Yonts and wife Ann; a sister, Ella Louise Sparks and husband Major; four grandchildren, Alisa Welcher, Richard Correa, Natalie Wolfe and Jessica Gray and husband Brent; seven great-grandchildren, Mark Ault, Samantha Wolfe, Nathaniel Wolfe, Harrison Wolfe, Grayson Fletcher and Gavin Gray; and a friend, Don Honnaker.

She was graduated from Cosmetology in April 1958 and enjoyed welcoming people into her home salon for many, many years.

At one time or another when younger, most of her brothers and sisters lived with her. She taught all to be very giving, thoughtful, caring and to love unconditionally.

She loved to cook large meals for her family and when not at home she traveled with Toby Tours and arranged travels all over the United States and abroad, with friends.

She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for 37 years and a member of The Golden Shepherds. In lieu of flowers, please give memorial contributions to the church: Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2015 S. Arlington Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46203.

Private services for the family and entombment was in Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker, Ind.
