Louise Shepherd succumbs at 81

Funeral services for Louise Shepherd, 81, were held May 11 at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.

Born in Blackey to the late Bill and Cinda Fields Howard, she died May 9 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

She was the widow of Castel Shepherd, and a sister of the late Della Pennington and Eddie Howard.

She was a member of the Cram Creek Pentecostal Church, a former member of the Eastern Star #54 and the White Shrine #16 in Neon, and had worked at the Dry Fork Market for 18 years.

She was also a grandmother at Cowan Elementary School for several years.

Surviving are three daughters, Shannon Holbrook and husband Carlos of Hazard, Carol Day and husband Randall of Whitesburg, and Pam Gardner and Rick Hyden of Wise, Va.; a son, Jerry Shepherd and wife Michele of Erlanger; six brothers, Hillard Howard of Lady Lake, Fla., Charles Howard, Hubert Howard, Bobby Howard, and Jack Howard, all of Whitesburg, and John Howard of Payne Gap; five sisters, Oma Hatton of Sandlick, Betty Tyree and Kathleen Brock, both of Whitesburg, Joann Brown of Indianapolis, Ind., and Judy Greene of Rutledge, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Zach Day and wife Gina, Destiny Banks, Lindsay Shepherd, Jacob Shepherd and Emily Thomas; six great-grandchildren, Lillie, Kain, Gunner, Mini, Eli and Landon; friend, Nanetta Dingus, and caregiver Oma Lou Hale.
