M.A.R.S. Fest set for Aug. 22-23

Eastern Kentucky posses a wealth of musicians, artists, recreational opportunities, and natural beauty. High atop Pine Mountain at Wiley’s Last Resort, the first M.A.R.S. Fest (Music, Art, Recreation, Sustainability Festival) and Black Mountain Memorial will celebrate all these assets and more on Friday, August 22, and Saturday, August 23. Only 200 weekend tickets will be made available at $25 each. Advance tickets are available at Summit City, 214 Main St., Whitesburg, KY, or by contacting Brett Ratliff at (606) 356- 3315.

Eastern Kentucky musicians scheduled to perform include Rob McNurlin, Rich & the Poor Folks, Mitch Barrett, the Clack Mountain String Band, the Sweet Thangs, Wicked Polly, Carla Gover, John Haywood and Ponty’s Camper, Karly Higgins and Sarah Wood, Dave Isaacs, Bottle Rock Symphony, and Jason England and the Churchill Jax. M.A.R.S. Fest will also feature many of the area’s finest visual and crafts artists at Wiley’s Last Resort throughout the event. The event also promises poetry coordinated by Jim Webb, workshops, and activists. Camping is free and encouraged. Ample parking is available next door at the Little Shepherd Trail trailhead.
