Mabel Winchell dies at 98



Mabel May Roop Winchell, 98, of Dandridge, Tenn., died April 12.

Born in Coeburn, Va., to the late Benjamin and Maude Hall Roop, she had formerly lived in Jenkins.

She was the widow of Charles Arland Winchell, and a sister of the late Bessie Edith Dingus, Lona Maude Roop, Ella Juanita Humpt, Naomi “Oma” Roop, and Raymond Edison Roop.

She was a member of the Haymond Freewill Baptist Church in Cromona.

Surviving are a son, Charles Harold Winchell and wife Anita Sue of Dandridge, Tenn.; a daughter, Madonna Childers and husband Thomas of Lexington; three grandsons, Harold Douglas Winchell and wife Yvonne of Dandridge, Tenn., Charles David Winchell and wife Derissa of Wise, Va., and Jason Thomas Childers of Frankfort; a granddaughter, Melanie Renee Gould and husband Timothy; a great- grandson, Craig Aaron Winchell; two greatgranddaughters, Kristin Sue Glover and husband Harold, and Tiffany Ann Winchell; a great-great-granddaughter, Caitlin Bryanne Glover; and a great-great-grandson, Jace Ethan Glover.

Funeral services were held April 14 in Dandridge, Tenn. Burial services were held at Green Acres Cemetery in Whitesburg.
